A group of Bristol children is getting ready for its first big break on stage.

On February 26, the youngsters will be performing in a production of Puccini's opera Turandot at the Hippodrome.

The 12 children from Stagecoach Theatre Arts, aged between six and eight, have had to master Italian to sing during their two appearances on stage.

Two of the youngsters have landed special roles, Chloe Butler will be playing Princess Turandot and Oliver Sydenham will be Prince Calaf for the night.

They have been rehearsing for the past two months.

Director Ellen Kent said she was always keen to use local talent in her traditional productions to give the next generation an introduction to the arts.

The children will also be taking part in Verdi's Aida on February 27 and 28.
