Chelwood trials take centre stage this weekend
RHL Activities, the organisers of this year's ill-fated Weston Beach race, are to stage both of Britain's Motocross Grand Prixs in 2010.
The 125/250cc and open class meeting is scheduled to take place over the spring Bank Holiday at a new venue between Bristol and Newport, which is believed to be in the Magor area.
They will also stage the final round of the MX 3 series at Howton Court, Pontrilas, between Hereford and Abergavenny on September 19.
The UK also has a sidecar Grand Prix next year, and this is being run at Langrish, near Petersfield in Hampshire, on April 18.
But for the next few weeks, it is trials that take centre stage.
Wessex Centre championship points are at stake in the North Somerset club's President's Cup event at Chelwood on Sunday.
Owing to action by postal workers, the solo line-up has been slow to materialise, but upwards of 60 riders are expected to face the starter for the four-lap, 14 section event at Malthouse Farm, including Colin Crease, Craig and Mark Talbot, Lee Hassall, Ian Fortune, Rob Scott, Ross Thurlow and possibly South West Centre stars Ricky Wiggins and Ben Bramwell.
Three-times British sidecar champion Jon Tuck is unable to take part in the Chelwood event as he is on holiday, but he has found a stand-in.
Paul Avery is borrowing his outfit and his passenger Matt Sparks, and other leading crews including Phil Sparks and Roger Tuck, Dave Tuck and Steve Chandler, and Steve and Harvey Radford are also competing.
Classic bike riders are catered for by the Somerton club, who have a four-lap event at Lime Kiln quarry, near Langport, on Sunday, and the Golden Valley Classic Club, who are in Catswood, near Bisley in Gloucestershire, the same day.
Two rounds of the Sammy Miller-backed National trials series take place over the weekend.
Tomorrow's event is integrated into the Ringwood club's Perce Simon Cup event at Somerley, in the New Forest, and Sunday's meeting is at West Hagbourne, near Didcot, in a North Berkshire club promotion.
