Cheltenham runner Brewer chases a medal at European trials

Cheltenham's James Brewer will be chasing a medal at the Aviva UK Indoor Championships, incorporating the European trials, at Sheffield this weekend.

The 20-year-old has raced once this winter, enjoying a runaway triumph in the semi-finals of the Inter City Cup in a time of three minutes 50.66 seconds.

That puts Brewer ninth in the UK Rankings but is hardly a reflection of his ability or his best time that stands at 3:41.89 from last winter when he finished third in this same event.

Somerset's Amy Woodman will be looking for here first senior national medal in the long jump.

Woodman has flow back to her home in Clutton from America, where she is working as a coach at Ferris State University in Wisconsin, to compete in the championships after a recent personal best of 6.31m that lifted her to second in the UK Rankings.

Stroud & District AC sprinter Jennie Batten is also in the hunt for a medal this weekend at the England Athletics Under-17s Championships which are staged in Birmingham.

The 16-year-old 200m runner is top of the UK rankings with a best of a season's best of 24.94secs and if she can reproduce here best form will be hard to beat.

Bristol sprinter Emily Diamond is among the favourites in the Under-20 women's 800m.

It has been confirmed that Saturday March 14th will be the new date for the Flora London Mini Marathon trials, which was postponed lasat week due to the weather. But the start time will be 11.30am.
