Junior rugby round-up: Cheddar Under-14s came through their toughest examination of the season so far when they visited a powerful Bristol Harlequins side, claiming a 31-29 victory to extend their unbeaten start to the season to four matches.

The hosts had a chance to level the contest with the last kick of the game but the conversion fell agonisingly short.

Cheddar's Sam Balkham (2), Tom Jones, Stan Smith and Will Cahill all crossed for tries with Cahill critically landing three conversions, while Quins' scorers were Sam Stansfield (2) Nick Bushell, James Martin and James Hooper, who also landed two conversions.

Gordano Under-12s returned to wining ways, defeating local rivals Yatton 14-0 with a fine solo effort from Lewis Leaker and a 50-metre interception try from Callum Corcoran, both of which were converted by Sam Hodge.

Nailsea & Backwell Under-11s edged past their Midsomer Norton counterparts 12-7 in a tight contest. Tries by Sam Pain and Harvey Flower and a Sam Taylor conversion was enough to see them home with Alex Jones in outstanding form for the Somerset club.

Tries by Daniel Harris (2) Callum Taylor and Lewis Chadwick helped Frampton Cotterell Under-11s to a comfortable 28-7 victory at North Bristol. Chadwick added three conversions with Ben Purchase chipping in with one conversion.

WhitehallUnder-11s managed not to lose for the first time in six outings when they fought out a 20-20 stalemate against Avonmouth. Jacob Watkins and Edward Price collected two tries apiece to earn the draw for the Speedwell club.

Winscombe Under-17s cruised into the next round of the junior Combination cup with a workman-like display over St Brendans running out 28-7 winners. A brace of tries by the dependable Chris Dart and one each for Will Baldock and Tom McMaster proved to be enough.

Broad Plain Colts toppled Stothert & Pitt 34-7 and avenged a defeat they received at the hands of the same opponents earlier in the season.

Hornets' Colts match in the National Cup against Paignton was stopped after the score reached 50-0. Jermaine Jones and Richard Hill each scored three tries.
