Charley Boorman meets fans at Bristol book signing
Advenurous types swapped travel tales with Charley Boorman at a Bristol book signing.
The travel writer and presenter, who rode around the world with Ewan McGregor for TV series Long Way Round and Long Way Down, signed his latest book, Right To The Edge: Sydney to Tokyo By Any Means, for a queue of fans at Stanfords in Corn Street.
Rather conventionally Charley took a train and a taxi to the book store yesterday, but getting from Sydney to Tokyo saw him ride quad bikes, canoes, paragliders and even wooden scooters.
Tina Faux, 44, of Wickwar, who was buying the book for her partner said: "We've been inspired by Long Way Round. We're building a dune buggy based on a VW Beetle and hope to take very early retirement and go off travelling in it."
During the trip, Charley ate ice cream from a urinal in Japan but says the worst things he ate were fruit bat and dog. The 45-year-old was keen to promote exotic travel. He said: "The thing about all my trips is that anyone can do them if they want to."
The signing was a day out for one Bristol family. Joe Collins, 12, his sister, Chloe, 15, mum, Tina, 45 and dad, Mike, 50 were joined by auntie, Caroline Lovell, 52, and cousin, Austin Lovell, 11.
Mrs Collins said: "We watch the programme as a family. It's great to see how different cultures live."
Right to the Edge is out now.

“I'd have been really impressed if he had ridden into the store on his GS!”
