Charles painting for auction
A LIMITED edition print of a watercolour by Prince Charles is to be auctioned to raise money for one of his favourite charities.
The Prince is patron of the Penny Brohn Cancer Care, which promotes a holistic approach to treating people with cancer.
Charles' work depicts part of the organic herb gardens in the grounds of his country home near Tetbury, and is entitled The Thyme Walk, Highgrove House.
It will be sold at an event at the charity's new base in Pill next month.
Julian Withers, fundraising manager for the charity, said: "We are privileged to have His Royal Highness as our patron and delighted that he has made this most generous donation.
"All profits raised will help us with our life-changing work caring for people with cancer and their families and friends."
It is hoped the picture will raise between £5,000 and £10,000 towards the total target of £50,000 of sales from more than 400 pieces.
The exhibition, during the weekend of October 3, will be the fifth the charity has staged.
One-hundred other artists will be showcasing their work in the house and grounds throughout the weekend, providing visitors the opportunity to view and buy unique pieces from established, influential and emerging talent.
The event brings together artists who exhibit with Bristol Savages and The Royal West of England Academy to provide a mix of traditional and contemporary pieces. The Prince has supported Penny Brohn Cancer Care since it was launched in the 1980s as Bristol Cancer Help Centre He became patron in 1997.
Penny Brohn Cancer Care is the country's longest established centre for using integrated therapies to support people living with cancer and their supporters and has built up a worldwide reputation.
