The issue of fuel tankers using local roads in North Bristol is an important one.

As councillors Weston and Windows acknowledge, I have been working with officers, residents and councillors in Bristol and South Gloucestershire to seek a resolution. There have also been discussions with Bristol International Airport about alternative fuel sources.

It is disappointing that the councillors should state, incorrectly, that they wrote to me asking that I organise a meeting for them with my South Gloucestershire "opposite number". I have investigated and can confirm that Councillor Weston in fact wrote to a Bristol City Council officer.

One might also ask why they need a Bristol City Council officer to arrange a meeting for them with Councillor Brian Allinson. Surely they could pick up the phone and arrange a meeting directly?

They are aware that the issue could be resolved almost instantly by the Conservative administration in South Gloucestershire extending the weight limit to the border with Bristol. Voters should ask what steps their councillors in Henbury who have been "campaigning for a considerable time" have actually taken to resolve the issue.

Making false accusations is not a good start.

Jon Rogers, address supplied.

THE problem of the Hallen Road tankers has been rumbling on for years. The Lib Dem administration in Bristol has done everything it can to resolve the issue, but the solution lies in the hands of the Conservative council in South Gloucestershire.

Instead of playing silly political games, councillors Weston and Windows (Letters, Sept 29 2009) both know how to solve this problem.

Tory councillors in Bristol could easily pick up the phone to their colleagues in South Gloucestershire and persuade them to sort this issue out. If they haven't then residents in their wards should ask why.

Instead they are happy continue to use the issue as a political football, whilst residents in my ward and others across North Bristol suffer from HGVs thundering past homes and schools.

Simon Rayner, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Kingsweston Ward.

“Maybe it's about time the riduculous ruling that allows one Council to impose traffic orders without consulting it's neighbours, is changed.
All it has done is created a hotch-potch of traffic restrictions and upset residents”
