Chancellor is right about this

I WATCHED the Andrew Marr Show in which Mr Marr interviewed Chancellor George Osborne.

Among other economic subjects Mr Osborne said funds would be found for infrastructure projects, such as motorway roads, but also for housing, including on the green belt.

In my opinion, Mr Osborne is right. The green belt is outdated. When it was instituted in the 1940s, I believe the planners didn't take into account the future demands of people wanting to buy their own homes almost 70 years later.

Human settlements have expanded since Roman times. York, Bath and Gloucester started off with a dozen or so dwellings during the Roman occupation. There are an estimated 14,000 people in Bristol homeless.

Large areas of land must become available for development. The present situation is totally unacceptable. The nimbys and the no change brigade have had their day. More power to your elbow, Mr Osborne.

“It seems in Bristol, we have two issues. There are some who do not want to build on green belt land and there are some who do not want the skyline of Bristol changed and therefore high rise buildings are out, Surely there is a compromise somewhere for the City to expand to the needs of the 21st Century?”
