People in South Gloucestershire have the chance to delve into their home's past at a workshop in Yate Heritage Centre.

The House History event is one of two organised by Gloucestershire Archives, the organisation that holds historical documents for much of South Gloucestershire.

Experts will show how the ownership and occupation of a property can be researched, as well as its building and architectural history, using such material as maps, plans, deeds, census returns and sales particulars.

John Putley, of Gloucestershire Archives, said: "The history of individual houses can be fascinating and this course is a great opportunity to get some expert help and advice at a low cost."

The cost of the workshop, on Friday (May 1) morning, is £10 and pre-booking is essential.

The second session will be at Dursley Library on the afternoon of Thursday, May 14.

Details on booking are available by phoning 01452 425295.
