Chalmers moves top with victory
Scott Chalmers moved to the top of the Western Cyclocross League with an emphatic victory in round six of the competition.
The Science In Sport.com rider put his local knowledge to good effect in the race at Stratford Park, in his home town of Stroud in Gloucestershire, leading from the start and not being challenged.
The league leader before round six, Dream CC's Chas Thursfield, suffered a fall and then a puncture which cost him dearly as he finished in ninth spot, and he now holds second place overall. There was a hard-fought battle for second place with Jeremy Addis (Royal Dean Forest CC) finishing ahead of Simon Burgess (Somer Valley CC) for the second race in a row.
Addis, in his first season of cyclocross, pulled away on the second lap and, despite a determined chase, Burgess could not close the gap, but keeps third spot in the league.
In round five, held at Ashton Court Estate in Bristol, last year's league winner Chalmers took second place behind Crispin Doyle (Swindon RC).
