Centre of celebration
A BIG cheer was sounded as hundreds of people gathered to declare a Patchway community centre open.
Following a grant of more than £395,000 from the Big Lottery Fund, and £300,000 from the town council, work has finished on Coniston Community Centre.

The money has enabled a state-of-the-art cafe and kitchen to be added to the ground floor of the community centre, which opened in 2004 to replace a temporary building acting as a community centre.
Two new function rooms on the upper floor have also been built to add to the day nursery and existing community rooms.
The space will provide an area for local groups and clubs to meet and for local people to hold parties and other events.
The work will also allow the premises to be used for college and community learning courses as well as advice agency sessions.
Victoria Poole, manager of the community centre, said: "We have invited hundreds of local people so this is a huge celebration. This changes the face of Patchway, and our community."

“Sorry they shouldnt have put a cafe there because all this will do is atract the school children and single mums (or married mums)with nothing better to do then spend their time sitting in a cafe with buggys drinking coffee and chatting and making it a mess.If they had seen how the last cafe worked on the Parade they would have know its the worst thing they could have done for this area.”
