This is Bristol

The over-50s are something of a force to be reckoned with in Bristol. At the last count the city had 114,800 of them. That's a whopping 28 per cent of its population.

No surprise, then, that the city council is acknowledging this significant presence by staging a special week-long Celebrating Age Festival, finishing with a grand finale on Saturday, October 4, in the Council House, College Green.

In Seven this week, we've caught up with some of the over-50s who all get out and about, keep active and play key roles as volunteers on numerous schemes in and around Bristol.

There's also some sound advice from the Government's Legal Services Commission and details of how you can get involved in this week-long event.

Councillor Rosalie Walker, Older People's Champion and city council cabinet member for culture and healthy communities, says she hopes many will come along and join in "celebrating the contribution older people make to life in Bristol".
