Jonathan Catt was the toast of St Mary Redcliffe School this week as he was their only winner at the Bristol Schools' Cross Country Championships.

In fact, the 12-year-old was the school's only medallist on a fine day of racing at Bristol Grammar School's sports ground, after he claimed the gold medal in the minor boys' race.

"I was really pleased to win and qualify for the Avon Schools' Championships," said Catt.

Colston's Rob Smart was runner-up and St Bedes School athlete David McMillan, whose older brother Chris was a useful runner, came third.

Colston's Hannah Cockram will also be looking for further success at the Avon Championships on Saturday, January 10, which will be staged over the same course.

The 12-year-old, who has been showing good form for Bristol & West AC this autumn, finished well clear of the Clifton College pair of Phoebe Pocock and Jemina Scrase in the minor girls' race.
