Catamaran found adrift in river
LIFEBOAT crews were called out after a boat was spotted floating adrift in the River Avon.
The 18ft catamaran was found floating just downstream of the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
Portishead lifeboat was called out by coastguards on Tuesday afternoon. They searched the boat and surrounding area but no-one could be found. The boat was then towed to a mooring at Crockerne Pill.
Portishead Lifeboat Trust spokesman Dave Herbert said: "Although there didn't appear to be any people on board there were fuel cans which posed a risk of pollution, and had the catamaran continued down river to the channel it would have been a hazard to navigation."

High water levels on the river, which has been swollen by recent rainfall, are believed to have forced the boat from its mooring.
