Tea report: Gloucestershire's seam bowlers were pressing hard for victory on the third day of the LV County Championship match against struggling Surrey at Bristol.

Requiring a win to keep alive their promotion hopes, the home side established a handsome first-innings lead of 340, leaving themselves four-and-a-half sessions in which to dismiss the Londoners.

Alex Gidman and Chris Taylor both helped themselves to hundreds as Gloucestershire raced to 523-7 declared in reply to Surrey's first innings 183.

Gidman registered a career-best 176, while Taylor made 111 from 102 balls. The pair took advantage of some abject bowling to plunder 48 boundaries between them.

But Surrey were not prepared to roll over completely and Michael Brown and Jon Batty reached the sanctuary of the tea interval on 33 without loss.
