Carayol will get a move up soon says boss Hill
Barnsley manager Keith Hill believes Bristol Rovers winger Mustapha Carayol will soon be plying his trade at a top Championship club.
Hill almost signed the in-demand wideman during the last January transfer window but was unable to finalise a deal and has effectively ruled out the chances of winning out in the scramble for his services this summer.
Rovers chairman Nick Higgs has already turned down one formal bid for Carayol, 22, from a Championship club and has tabled an offer of new and improved terms to try and fend off interest in their start playing asset.
Hill, however, believes Carayol, who is believed to be interesting the likes of Derby County, Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday, is Championship bound after an impressive 12-month spell at the Memorial Stadium.

"We were interested in Mustapaha Carayol but we have not made an approach since the last season finished," Hill said. "We tried to jump the queue and sign him in January because that is what we have to do to get the best players.
"We were very, very close to signing him but could not quite agree a deal and I don't think we can get him now.
"He is destined to be playing at the top of the Championship in the near future. We won't be able to compete with the other clubs that want him."

“I hope he stays another season, but if he joins a top championship club that rules him out staying local!”

“I would like to thank Keith Hill for his efforts to sell Muzzy on our behalf. I thought this kind of "tapping" was not permitted. His comments could unsettle the player and the league and F.A.should tell him to keep his cherry out.”

“Who is going to pay top money for him knowing he will only give you 30 games a season and once the heavy pitches come in he's had it so that rules out a move north stay and learn for another season and then barca or real madrid..”

“re westwardy's 1st comment - as a Robins fan I doubt you've ever even seen Carayol play. he's worth far more than 300k, so please take your figure back to South Bristol and put it somewhere without any sunshine. we don;t need you stirring up silly fees.”

“I used to like Barnsley but i don;t like them now. Why is Hill commenting about a player he did NOT sign, and now says he is NOT going to put a bid in for? talk about stirring up a transfer that doesn;t need stirring up and has nothing to do with him now. he's in contract with us, so please shut your mouth.”

“Wash your mouth out with soapy water gashead1970 and all those 17 people who have given him green arrows. How dare you suggest dithering may cost us league status. Haven't you read the script ?
We are not just building a team for promotion but one capable of competing at league 1 level and then it's onwards to the Championship in 4 1/4 years. Tally Ho !!!”

“If Carayol has any ambitions to play at a higher level, he should raise his sights a little higher than Barnsley!
On a wider front, isn't it about time Rovers addressed this perennial cycle of nurturing young talent only to be to forced to sell in order to balance-the-books. Frankly, I would find it very depressing knowing that any decent young player is likely to move-on as soon as he establishes himself as a half-decent prospect.
Ask yourself this question, Gasheads: For whose benefit is your (rather successful) scouting system aimed ? Yourselves or the next Championship/Premiership club who wave a big cheque in your direction?”

“If BC want £3mill for AA, Carayol must be worth a lot lot more than the £175k mentioned despite the 2 division divide.”
