Am I the only one in Bristol who thinks the Government's car scrappage scheme is complete nonsense?

I thought the Government were trying to encourage people out of their cars and on to public transport, this just seems a way to get people to spend money in a recession, would the money not be better spent on improving public transport?

Buy the car = vat added;

Buy road tax = tax + vat added;

Fill with fuel = fuel duty + vat added;

Insure the car = vat added.

I think the Government will get their money back.

Maybe the money could also be spent on trading in your car for a moped? This would cut congestion and pollution in one go.

But there's probably not enough tax in this scheme for Gordon Brown

A Sheppard, Bedminster.

    “Another thing to consider is that although the newer car may be more "green" & efficient, this will be partialy offset by the production of more cars”
