Butler looking to use Hitman as inspiration
The prospect of fighting in front of boyhood hero Ricky 'The Hitman' Hatton will inspire Danny Butler to scale new heights when he takes on Tony Randall at Bristol's city centre Marriott Hotel.
Boxing under the Hatton Promotions banner for the first time in his home town, the Bristolian is desperate to make a good impression on the world light welterweight champion.
The Hitman will be the main attraction on the three-fight dinner show and those who snapped up tickets within hours of them going on sale last month will be able to sample Hatton's renowned after-dinner speaking skills.
But Butler is determined not to be upstaged in front of his own supporters and is promising to turn on the style.
He said: "Just knowing Ricky Hatton is going to be there watching me will give me such a massive buzz.
"I can't really describe it. He was my hero when I was a kid growing up and he's someone I admire and have always looked up to.
"Boxing on his show is one thing, but to have him there at ringside is the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.
"I just hope I can box to the best of my ability and impress him. It will definitely lift me and inspire me."
Butler was a winner when Hatton staged his debut promotion in Birmingham's Tower Ballroom in September and the Mancunian stepped into the ring to present the Bristolian with the British Masters super middleweight belt after he had stopped Matty Hough to claim the vacant title.
"That was the proudest moment of my career so far," admitted Butler. "Ricky said some nice things about me that night and that's the sort of thing that stays with you as a fighter.
"It's great to be able to work with someone as successful and as well respected as Ricky Hatton and, hopefully, this show will open a few doors for me."
Kingswood super featherweight Pete 'The Choirboy' Leworthy features on an undercard which includes new Hatton Promotions signing Alfonso Vieyra.
Leworthy steps in for his third professional outing with a six rounder against midlander Shaun Walton, while US-based Vieyra takes on Anthony Hannah over four rounds, also at super featherweight.
Butler revealed: "Vieyra has been sparring with us in the gym and he looks a real prospect. This will be the first time he's boxed over here and I think people will like what they see."
