A NEW chairman has been chosen for Bath and North East Somerset Council which includes the Keynsham area.

Labour Councillor Rob Appleyard represents Westfield ward and will represent the authority at local events and chair council meetings during the coming year. He said: "I look forward to meeting as many people as possible over the coming 12 months in what will be an exciting period with the Olympics and Queen's Jubilee."

He welcomes invitations to events which relate to his theme for the year - "People Matter". His main fundraising event will be the Chairman's Charity Ball in March next year.

Councillor Appleyard has chosen Banes Care Centre, Julian House and the Royal United Hospital as his three chosen charities to support.
