Busy Isit gave permit holder Fiona Shaw a fairytale winner with her first runner at Leicester.

She only took out a permit in October on the advice of Minehead trainer Philip Hobbs, who used to be in charge of the gelding.

The 11-1 shot, owned and bred by Shaw and her husband Peter, held course specialist Mokum by half a length in the ladbrokes.com Leicestershire Silver Fox Handicap Chase under Richard Johnson.

"It was very exciting – he was our first runner. We got our permit at the end of October and we've been waiting for the ground for him," said Dorchester-based Shaw.

"To be fair it was Philip who persuaded us to take out a permit and train him. He deserves the credit.

"Richard gave him a great ride and we were so lucky he was available.

"I had given my husband the mare for his birthday. We bred the horse so it was a good day."

Chris Bealby tasted success for the first time in more than six weeks when Dream Garden gained a fortunate victory in the ladbrokes.com Belvoir Novices' Chase.

The Grantham trainer has had hardly any runners in recent weeks as his stable has been under a cloud.

However, Dream Garden showed the string to be back in business, even though he may have had luck on his side.

There was little between Dream Garden (14-1) and Nom De Guerre when the latter unseated Aidan Coleman at the final fence.

That left Bealby's charge to come home nine lengths clear of It's In The Stars in the hands of 3lb claimer Tom Messenger.

"Tom thinks he would have won anyway. I couldn't say either way really. It's not a Flat race, they have to get over the jumps," said Bealby.

"I couldn't believe his price, not that I bet.

"We've had a quiet five weeks since Dream Garden ran badly at Cheltenham except for Ashwell winning at Kempton last month.

"We've done a few tests but we've not been able to find anything wrong really with him so we've just been quiet with them for two or three weeks and let them come back to themselves.

"This is the first runner we've had since we eased off a bit. Hopefully we'll finish the season as we started it."

Battlefield (16-1) overcame a near 15-month absence to register his first success in the ladbrokes.com Novices' Handicap Chase.

The Richard Lee-trained eight-year-old was also 9lb out of the handicap but it did not stop him from outbattling Ours by six lengths.

Conditional rider Charlie Poste, who claims 3lb but put up 1lb overweight, went on before the fourth-last fence and kept Battlefield up to his work to deny the 9-4 favourite.

"It was a surprise to be honest. I think I put one or two people off," admitted Lee.

"He's a typical Overbury. He wanted a lot of time and he's growing up at last. I haven't got any plans for him at the moment."

Bensalem looks to have a big future after outclassing the opposition in the ladbrokes.com Novices' Hurdle.

Alan King's five-year-old followed up his debut win over jumps at Chepstow with the minimum of fuss.

Held up in the rear by Robert Thornton in the early stages as Pelennor set the pace, the 1-3 shot took it up before the final flight and won cosily by seven lengths from Vagrant Emperor with Toby Belch three-quarters of a length away third.
