The EBF Smiths News Novice Stakes at Lingfield may be one of the best juvenile events run at the track all year, but the one who brings the strongest form to the table is Business As Usual.

Each of the four runners that are set to face the starter have run once and each of them were victorious, making this event a pretty tricky one to solve.

Mick Channon's Thrust Control only edged home on his debut at Warwick and you would have to think more would be required, but the other three all won with a degree of assurance.

Godolphin inmate Fareej justified short odds at Newmarket but the form is hard to quantify given none of those that finished behind have won since.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Magician's Cape won cosily at Lingfield but that form looks moderate at best and the fact that he was sent off at 9-1 suggests he is not held in particularly high regard.

And so that brings us to the selection Business As Usual, trained by the wily Michael Jarvis.

There was plenty of expected of him on his introduction at Yarmouth and he justified some solid market support with an impressive display.

The runner-up Govern may have been beaten since, but the third and fifth home have both bolted up, so the form is rock solid. There can be little doubt he has more on his plate this time around but he clearly has plenty of ability and he could be competing at a higher level next season.

Stoute may well be out of luck in the main race on the card but it would be surprising if his Serhaal does not prove too strong in the EBF Menzies Distribution Maiden Stakes.

The juvenile looked badly in need of the experience at Yarmouth back in August but despite playing up beforehand and running too green during the race, he still finished second to odds-on favourite Excellent Guest.

He should have improved significantly since and will surely go one better in a contest of this nature.

Dream Number has shown enough in three maiden outings to suggest the digibet Casino Nursery is well within her compass. Willie Muir's filly got going all too late when fifth on her debut but shaped with much more encouragement to take third at Ffos Las next time.

She occupied the same position in a race won by the smart Rakaan on her latest outing and she looks the sort to do better now tackling handicap company.

Kickahead seems to relish quick ground and he should find conditions to his liking in the totesuper7 Handicap Hurdle at Wetherby.

Ian Williams' runner is not the most straightforward of horses, but he is twice a winner at Stratford recently and is certainly in fine heart at present.

At Uttoxeter, smart bumper performer Alfie Spinner gets the vote as he bids to open his account over timber at the second attempt in the European Breeders' Fund Lambrini "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle.
