Speeding is the biggest community concern in Burnham-on-Sea and surrounding villages.

Residents talked to police at a Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meeting.

They agreed speeding would be looked at on Berrow Road and Ash Tree Road, at Marine Drive and the Esplanade.

Cycling on the High Street footpath will also be investigated over the coming weeks.

There are two Community Speedwatch groups in the area, one at Stoddens Road and the other recently formed in Berrow.

Police are hoping to introduce more Speedwatch groups, including one at Marine Drive. Town centre sergeant Ian Kennett said: "The Highways Agency is carrying out speed checks at Ash Tree Road and we are looking for Speedwatch volunteers at Berrow Road.

"Community Speedwatch is a fantastic way to empower residents to tackle an issue that is affecting them and their neighbours.

"However, you can also expect to see officers patrolling these areas at peak times, issuing warnings and fixed-penalty notices to anyone driving above the speed limit.

"In the past six months we have issued more than 60 fixed-penalty notices for speeding at Marine Drive alone.

"We will also be patrolling the town centre with a focus on identifying those who cycle on pavements and educating them of the dangers."

In January residents from nearby villages raised similar concerns and speeding, parking and road safety were agreed as the community priorities.
