Bruce Grobbelaar may play for Winterbourne United
Hellenic League side Winterbourne United have made an audacious approach to sign legendary Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar for a one-off game.
The swoop for the Zimbabwean's services has been made by new 'Bourne boss Nick Tanner, an Anfield team-mate of Grobbelaar's in the early 1990s. The pair have remained in touch and in December 2007 they linked up again when Tanner, a one-time Bristol Rovers defender, persuaded the goalkeeper to turn out for his Liverpool Legends team against a Bristol United XI at Yate.

Now Tanner has asked the colourful, often extrovert 52-year-old, who in recent years played for Yorkshire outfit Glasshoughton Welfare, to feature between the sticks for Winterbourne's Gloucestershire Challenge Trophy match with Patchway Town on Saturday, December 5 (1.30pm). Grobbelaar is due to move to Canada three days after the game.
He confirmed: "Bruce still performs regularly for the Liverpool Legends teams and we're in discussion with him about coming to Winterbourne. Chances of him playing for us are good and we should know more in the next few days."
