Broomsgrove nets huge haul
Local expert Mark Broomsgrove set a new Yarlington Match Lake record with a massive 172-0-0 catch of carp in the Carps AC Midweek match fished at Cider Farm Lakes, Lympsham.
The Sensas Thyers team member poled pellet into the lakeside margins of peg 54 for fish averaging 3lb.
The top silverfish catch was taken by Mike Nicholls, who poled maggot into the lakeside margins of peg 25 for 86-2-0 of carp and 44-7-0 of skimmers.

* North-easterly winds put the fish down and 13-0-0 of skimmers and roach was enough for Jeff Agius to win the Pucklechurch AS match fished on the River Huntspill at Woolavington.
Martin Rayet came second at peg 55 with a similar 11-2-0 catch taken with feeder and worm.
Bill Ferris and Dick Savage finished joint-third at pegs 74 and 70 respectively with an inseparable weight of 9-1-0.

* The capture of an 18lb mirror carp tipped the balance for Gary Wall when only a couple of pound separated the top three places in the Avon Angling Midweek Open fished at Avalon Fisheries.
Wall poled banded 6mm pellet onto the island ledge at 14 metres off peg 21 and weighed-in a 14-carp catch totalling 79-12-0.
Tony Rixon and Martin Lenaghan also weighed in a 14-carp catch with the former taking the second place pools payout by 8oz.
Rixon fished both a waggler and long pole with pellet and paste at peg 21 to tempt 78-1-0 of carp to 9lb, while Lenaghan fished similarly at peg nine for 77-9-0.

* Pete Powe picked up the silverware with an 8-14-0 catch of skimmers in the Dunsford Cup match fished on the Bristol Avon at St Anne's Park.
The club's PR officer fished a straight lead with triple red maggot to the far side off peg five and brought five skimmers averaging a little over 1-12-0 to the scales.
Second was Ben Creswell, who fished the same but used bronze coloured maggot to tempt 8-0-0 of quality skimmers from peg three.
Ted Morgan scraped into third place from Tom Bailey by just 2oz. Morgan float-fished maggot close-in at peg 11 for 5-10-0 of roach and dace, while Bailey pole maggot and caster at seven metres off peg two for 5-8-0 of mostly roach.

* Brian Shanks was the only competitor to hit the 100lb mark in the Bristol PSV match fished on Landsend Fisheries' Match Lake at Wedmore.
Shanks poled a 6mm banded pellet close to the island at 14.5 metres off peg 20 and weighed in 109-5-0 of carp to almost 8-0-0.
Second place was taken by Alan Healy with a similar 85-11-0 taken from corner peg 13 with maggot poled shallow at 11 metres.

* Despite a bright sun and clear water, the Bristol Avon between Swineford and Jack Whites fished fairly well for the second round of the Bristol Commercial House Winter League.
The top individual catch fell to Jerry Pocock, of BTM Services, who fished a groundbait feeder with worm and caster at two thirds across from Swineford peg five for five bream and seven skimmers, which weighed 28-9-0.
Veals rod Steve Hutchinson came second at Swineford 17, where a waggler and double red maggot combination came up with 23-14-0 skimmers and chub.

* The weight of one decent- sized Campbell Lake tench separated first and second in the Carpenters Arms 2,000 AC match fished at Viaduct Fishery, Somerton.
The top weight was 65-7-0 and fell to Keynsham's Paul Hurn, who used a straight lead and an 8mm hair rigged pellet to tempt 12 carp from peg 117 on the Cary Lake causeway. Second place and the top silverfish catch was taken by Phil Groves, who poled sweetcorn and caster into the corner margins of 119 for 49-14-0 of carp to 8lb plus 13-8-0 of skimmers and tench.
