Brizzley Bear drops in for day at nursery school
THE youngest children at Redland High School for Girls were sure of a very big surprise when Brizzley Bear, the mascot for the Bristol Rugby team, dropped by.
For the girls, aged three and four, who have heard the classic story of Goldilocks as part of a topic about bears, he was the perfect Daddy Bear.
The girls are due to make beds and chairs for their own teddies and create bear collages.
The girls in the lower foundation (nursery) class also have their own pet bear, called Gulliver, who regularly travels with them on their holidays.
He has several sets of clothes and his own backpack in which to keep them so that he can look smart at all times.
In the past year, Gulliver's travels have included journeys to Florida and the Isles of Scilly and he has also been to so many birthday parties, that he must have lost count.

“Wickerama ~ thanks for the reply, my comment about rugby and girls was aimed at the 3 and 4 year olds meeting the mascot. I am fully aware about girls and sport and have run a number of very successful girls' football teams since 1978. At my last school a boy played netball and he was not allowed to play in an inter-school competition because he was a boy, I wish he had taken the issue further as quite a number of girls have played for school football teams (under 11) with no complaints. My original comment was never ever meant to start a debate about the merits of single sex education (I have taught in an all boys' school in London), simply to ask about children this young not being educated together.”

“"I am sure the girls knew nothing of that sport."
Even more ridiculous to suggest girls dont know anything about sport especially rugby! Check out Bristol Rugby ladies!! http://tinyurl.com/732fk4p Sure they would disagree.
Also there are lots of studies to show the huge merits of single sex education especially for girls! A huge amount of evidence out there. The key word in your comment is WAS. You were a teacher. Teaching has changed, the world has changed and old fashioned sterotypes of girls schools and girls not plaaying sport are outdated and incorrect!”

“Wickerama ~ it's that I was a teacher and think that boys and girls should be educated together! I know about studies when boys/girls are taught in single sex groups, I wonder what the parents' logic would be. Odd, also, that a rugby bear is invited, I am sure the girls knew nothing of that sport.”

“Random comment Kyngsmeadboy....I expect some of them might actually see their own brothers or even their brothers friends! I would imagine out of a whole class some of the girls have brothers-weird thats what came to mind when reading about 3 and 4 year old girls!”

“Do these 3 and 4 year old girls meet any 3 and 4 year old boys?”
