GOLF: Max Brittan and Laurie Canter led Saltford to victory in the Trounson Trophy at Burnham and Berrow with rounds of 71, three under the day's standard scratch. This follows their retention of the Bristol and District League title.

Matt Lea and Louis Boston, who are also members of Saltford's formidable first team, shot 73. The net score of 216 was three better than runners-up Burnham, whose best return came from James Holl, who shot 70 for the day's best return.

Farrington's quartet of Murray Day (80), Alex Knight (75), Craig Adams (72) and Shane Phelps (82) were third on 221.

● Kevin Pitts (Woodspring) continued his good form of last winter, Steve Ritchie (Farrington), who recovered from a lost ball at the fifth with successive birdies at the closing three holes, and Mark Sanders (Knowle), helped by a chip-in for eagle on the last, also returned 67 in the breeze.

Kaye picked up birdies at the 2nd, 4th and 8th on a course he had never seen before.

A bogey at the 7th hole halted his progress but he still turned in a best of the day 31 outward nine.

He added two more birdies at the 12th and 13th followed by six pars. He admitted that his putting had been the key. He said: "Winning was a little unexpected and I didn't realise I had won until I came in."

● David Haines (Brean) tied for sixth on level par with Sam Hughes (Saltford) and Hambrook duo Trevor Jones and Giuseppe Licata.

● Andrew Sherborne (Kendleshire) and Wiltshire champion David Hutton (Hamptworth) finished third in the SkyCaddie PGA Fourball championship at Forest Pines. They shared £2,500 yet their chances seemed remote after an opening 67 left them well down the field.

But a second round 61, followed by 64, brought a 27-under-par return of 192, four behind Irish winners Stuart Taylor (Island) and Patrick Devine (Royal Dublin).

● Theo Hall won Lansdown's junior club championship with level par 71 in his last competitive round as a junior.
