British Doctors cycle for Christchurch Earthquake
On 22nd February 2011 the Christchurch earthquake claimed 185 lives from 15 different nations, even more were injured and disabled, thousands lost their homes and livelihoods. The central city was destroyed and complete suburbs have been deemed unsafe to live in. The city's infrastructure is still is being repeatedly crippled by aftershocks.
Valuable help came from all over the world to aid the Christchurch rescue and recovery operations. We then saw similar international support for those affected by the tragic Japanese and Turkey earthquakes. The International Red Cross played a key role in all three devastating natural disasters, and they will continue to support others in the future.
To pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the Christchurch earthquake and those who suffered the consequences of that day a group of UK doctors, the majority of which worked during the earthquake will cycle the entire length of the UK (Lands End to John O'Groats). The event will take place 12th-27th May 2012 and will be called 'Rise up for LEJOG'.
