Britain is not "one nation"
ED Miliband's "One Nation" speech at the Labour Party conference in Manchester was very clever. It ticked a great many boxes. One of those which was not so obvious was the Scottish independence referendum in 2014. Alex Salmond's best hope for a "yes" vote is a strong Tory party led by David Cameron. A resurgent Labour Party is Salmond's worst nightmare.
Of course, the 'one nation' theme is patently not valid.
The United Kingdom is not one nation. Even England isn't one nation. There is a definite economic North/South divide. Both of these economies are separated from London by a chasm.
There needs to be a South Country assembly to look after the interests of the south outside of London.
