Bristolian has motocross crown – but still wants win
Bristol Suzuki star John May has already clinched the Remedies Bar-backed West Country Motocross Series but that will not stop him wanting to win the last three races in the series at Ladram Bay in East Devon tomorrow.
Marshfield's George Davis needs to score a few points to secure second place but he can still be caught by near neighbour Josh Wyatt, who holds a slender four-point lead over James Kensington.
Darren Shears is assured of the 125/250cc title but there is a battle for second place involving Nick Wadge and Tom Harvey.
Poole youngster Brett Wheeler sealed the junior title several rounds ago and the accent is on the battle for second place between Stockwood's Luke Redstone and Ryan Pryer.
Totnes all-rounder Nick Life, who was on the leader board when the Weston Beach Race was stopped, is competing in the Weymouth Race at the Dorset resort on Sunday along with 140 others.
But this is no three hour marathon and will be decided over two half-hour races for juniors, seniors and experts, making it a six event programme.
High terminal speeds are likely
Former Bristolian Andy Frost, who emigrated to Australia 18 months ago, came over to compete in the ill-fated Weston event and he will be prolonging his stay to ride in the North Somerset club's two-hour timed and observation trial at Ubley Drove on the Mendips on Sunday.
He faces a wealth of local talent including Peter King, Paul Manning, Justin Adams and Jason Hamblin in the trials class and Stuart Keedwell, Tim Walters and Gary Newman in the enduro class.
The quarter-mile sprint season comes to an end locally with the National Sprint Association's British Championship two-day meeting at Westonzoyland near Bridgwater tomorrow and Sunday.
If the current fine weather holds, high terminal speeds are likely to be attained by several of the UK's leading lights, including Mervyn Evans, Keith Parnell, Tony Davenidge, Simon Manno and Barry Varndell.
