Call it after Bristolian John James
RELATING to the naming of the new hospital at Southmead.
How about naming it after a true and proper Bristolian. A man who earned a fortune in Bristol and gave back a fortune to the people of Bristol.

The debate over what to call the new Southmead Hospital continues to divide opinion
He gave a tremendous amount of money to Frenchay and Bristol Children's Hospitals so there is a connection, and also a fantastic job in helping our pensioners, so how about The John James Memorial Hospital.

I have to agree with Doctor Jewkes that there is no need to change the name of Southmead Hospital. I think a name change is as daft as now calling the Council House ,City Hall. Bristolians still call the Centre, The Tramway centre, Ashton Gate stadium, The City ground , and the Engineers arms pub in St Johns still sticks although now called something else . What a waste of time and money these name changes are.

“Name it after the first person to die on route whilst stuck in traffic on Southmead Road. The same person who would have probably survived if taken to the easier accessible A&E at Frenchay.”

“The new building or wing or something can be dedicated to John James but regardless of any pointless 're-branding' the site is still going to be referred to as Southmead Hospital. The Mall was built 15 years ago now but it's always just a part of 'Cribbs' to everyone I know. Broadmead/Cabot Circus? That's 'Town', as in going into... Southmead Hospital it is now and that's not going to change.”
