Youngsters created colourful designs to encourage people to do their bit to help the environment.

The pupils from Begbrook Primary School were set the challenge of painting pictures for a calendar to go up at nearby Frenchay Hospital.

North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT), which runs the site and its sister hospital at Southmead, asked the youngsters to get involved as part of its commitment to reducing climate change.

The trust's Treading Lightly campaign is raising awareness about the environment and copies of the calendars will be displayed around the trust.

Elane McDonald, of NBT's environmental management unit, said: "I wanted to involve children in a project because they are great ambassadors for getting adults to think about things they take for granted or highlight where bad practice can be turned into good.

"They are our future and how we live today affects them tomorrow.

"Working with the children was inspiring. They had some fantastic ideas for this calendar and really did a wonderful job in raising environmental awareness to help us all combat the effects of climate change."
