Youngsters from Bristol are campaigning to win seats in the UK Youth Parliament.

The 31 budding politicians, aged 11-18, are competing for just six places in the parliament which represents Bristol in national discussions involving young people.

There are also 20 places available on the Bristol Select Committee, which works locally through school councils and youth clubs to tackle issues in the city.

Each candidate has drawn up an election manifesto, outlining three key issues which they believe are affecting Bristol's youth and have designed their own campaign logos.

Hannah Crook, 16, from Mangotsfield, is one Bristol student who is running for seats in both the Youth Parliament and the Bristol Select Committee.

She has pledged in her manifesto to tackle mental health issues and bullying in schools and, if elected, she hopes to be able to make a difference to the lives of schoolchildren in the area.

She said: "The Youth Parliament and Select Committee are great opportunities to make a difference.

"I am very passionate about the the things I am campaigning for.

"If elected, I want to encourage a better view of students with mental health problems and increase support for them in schools.

"I also want to see a reduction in homophobic bullying which can be very damaging to young people."

Up to 40,000 young people from across Bristol are eligible to vote in polling stations in secondary schools and youth clubs across the city.

Voting takes place from Monday, January 19 until Friday, February 6.
