Bristol women have major medal chance in relay event, says Down
Bristol & West AC's senior women have a real chance of getting among the medals at the National Road Relay Championships in Birmingham tomorrow.
The squad that won silver medals at the Midlands over the same Sutton Park course last month is arguably stronger with Kate Goodhead, who was away representing Britain at the Commonwealth Mountain Running Championships, in Keswick, returning to the team.

She will join Rebekkah Randall, Katie Knowles and in-form British international Claire Hallissey, who led the British challenge at the World Half Marathon Championships last weekend, in a team that should challenge for honours.
"The women have a very good chance of winning a medal though the opposition from Charnwood, Aldershot, Farnham & District, Chester-le-Street and Kendal will be strong," said team manager Mike Down.
"Our B squad is also very strong and we'll be looking for them to finish top B team overall."
Bristol's women were eighth 12 months ago and sixth in 2007 and you have to go back to 2005 for when they last made the podium when Kate Reed's stunning last-stage performance delivered gold.
The Westbury Harriers women won't be thinking of medals just yet but the squad of Debbie Marsden, junior Hannah Alderson, Robyn Golding and Emma D'Alton is the best they have fielded in several years and should be looking for a top 20 finish, if not even better.
Bristol & West's men have finished in the top 10 in four of the last five years with the high point being third place in 2006. On paper the squad of Jon Wills, Richard Peters, Tom Russell, Tom Merson, Phil Wylie and Rob Bugden looks very strong but such is the strength of the men's field that Down believes they only have an outside chance of a medal. "It is a different ball game in the men's race and, to be fair, a top six place must be the realistic target," added Down.
The Westbury men field the same team that finished 24th place in the Midlands last month with Sam Dalgleish, Joe Dalgleish, Dan Studley, John Terry, Gregg Ward and Rod Jones. Chris Palmer is on standby as Ward faces a late fitness test on a calf injury picked up during last week.
"The team are feeling confident and hoping to make the top 60 in what promises to be a highly competitive event" said team manager John Terry.
