A Lawrence Weston woman has been ordered to wear an electronic tag after stealing nappies worth £38.

Helen Osborne, 31, of Broadlands Drive, admitted stealing three packs of Pampers newborn baby nappies from Boots in Shirehampton when she appeared before Bristol Magistrates' Court.

Crown prosecutor Andrea Edwards said Osborne picked up the nappies and walked out of the shop without paying for them on September 25.

When arrested, Osborne admitted the theft and told police she had sold the nappies for £20 to buy food.

A drugs test revealed Osborne had cocaine in her system.

Ms Edwards said Osborne had breached a six-month community order imposed in May for a shoplifting offence.

Diane Heys, defending, said: "My client said the theft was not drug-related and that she had been short of money at the time and gave in to temptation."

Magistrates imposed a two-month community order and ordered Osborne to remain at home between 7pm and 7am for the next six weeks.
