Bristol woman is singing her way to national contest
A Bristol woman is gearing up for the regional finals of a national talent contest at the end of the month.
Alexis Brunel, from Longwell Green, will perform along with 49 other acts at St George's in Bristol on October 31 in the regional finals of the Open Mic UK 2009.

She came through an earlier heat of the competition in August by performing an a cappella version of 4 Non Blondes' song What's Up? at St George's in front of a panel of judges.
Alexis, whose real name in Tracey Jones, said: "My aspirations are rekindled.
"I'm passionate to make a comeback after 10 years away from the music scene.
"Of course, it would be a bonus if I win the first prize of a recording contract. But the regional finals are going to be tough because there are many talented solo artists to compete against.
"Hopefully, I will win some support from Bristol's music lovers."
Open Mic UK 2009 features a series of rounds at venues throughout the country. A total of 400 people entered the first round of the competition in Bristol in August.
There are three categories – under-18s, those aged between 18 and 25, and anyone over 25.
Kevin Swales, 52, of Downend, was another one of those who qualified for the next phase of the contest.
His a cappella version of Summertime was voted among the best by the judging panel, who were looking for stage presence, star quality and individuality as well as singing talent.
Winners of all the regional rounds will go on to the national final in Portsmouth in November.
The eventual winner will have the chance to record an album in professional studios and release a single.
They could even tour the UK and meet industry executives and record label agents.
