A teenager faces life imprisonment after being found guilty of murdering a man in a Bristol pub.

April Bright, 18, of Wilder Street, St Paul's, stabbed 35-year-old Mohamoud Hassan following last year's St Paul's Carnival.

She had admitted manslaughter but a jury at Bristol Crown Court convicted her of murder yesterday.

Bright sobbed behind the glass as the verdict was returned. Judge Mr Justice Roderick Evans adjourned sentence until today.

Bright, 17 when she committed the murder, has previous convictions for dishonesty, assault, drugs possession and racially threatening or insulting behaviour.

Richard Smith, QC, prosecuting, said the Criterion pub was packed with partying carnival-goers.

He said Bright had gone armed with a knife in her tracksuit. When she and Hassan crossed paths, she stabbed him in the neck. The court heard she had claimed he "touched her up".

When he lay bleeding to death, witnesses heard Bright say: "Let him die."

A statement from Mr Hassan's family said: "Whilst being pleased his killer has been found guilty, this is not a day of celebration."

They added the family knew Mr Hassan had many friends but had been amazed by the amount of supportive messages they had received.
