A Mangotsfield windows firm has taken over a struggling rival.

Panoramic Windows, owned by Steve Evans, has bought the assets and goodwill of Fishponds firm City Glass.

City Glass, which also had premises in Henleaze, went into voluntary liquidation last month.

Steve, who founded Panoramic in 1977, said: "We've had a record year with turnover up 20 per cent, even in a recession.

"We believe we sell better products and we have ranges of aluminium, timber and UPVC.

"What we've found is that our customers are not borrowing money to improve but have cash available and are spending it accordingly.

"Panoramic is the only Bristol-based company to have been awarded the prestigious kitemark for window installation.

"As a consequence of this merger, Martin Higgs, former City Glass director, has joined the Panoramic installation department."
