Bristol walkers raise money for meningitis charity
An army of walkers have raised an impressive £20,000 to help a Bristol-based charity develop a new vaccine for meningitis.
A cheque was presented to Meningitis UK for the sum following the annual Summer Stroll event from Bath to Bristol.
The stroll saw more than 150 locals sporting yellow T-shirts walk from Twerton Park to Ashton Gate, and was organised by prolific charity fundraiser Paul Hobbs, from Weston-super-Mare, to help the Downend charity.
Mr Hobbs has helped to raise £70,000 through the walks in just four years. And he hopes to smash his £100,000 target next year, when walkers can enjoy a new and improved route from Saltford to Bristol.
Participants included Bristol's Lord Mayor Chris Davies, Original FM's Jed and Kate Pitman, Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown, former City and current Yeovil Town footballer Scott Murray, Bath MP Don Foster, Bath City captain Jim Rollo, the team's manager Adie Britton and Miss Bristol Suzannah Burke.
