A group of students from Bristol's University of the West of England spent the summer building an adventure playground for orphaned children in Tanzania.

Oliver Goddard, 23, an architecture and planning graduate, organised the fund raising and transportation of materials and led the project in Boma Ng'ombe, Moshi.

He was inspired to help the Light in Africa children's home after a visit last year.

Oliver said: "I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for a fund raiser and afterwards had the opportunity to go to the children's home, where a new Tudor Village was being built.

"They are building 22 houses, accommodation for volunteers and carers, an assembly hall and a medical unit."

But there was no playground for the children and Oliver set about raising funds and recruiting a team for the task.

Oliver and fellow students in Project APE (Adventure Playground of Education) raised more than £8,000.

The playground was constructed from timber treated to withstand termites.

Oliver, of in Marlborough, Wiltshire, is now job hunting.
