Filton College is encouraging students to think about their safety when travelling to and from their studies.

It is planning a road safety day with sessions including; cycle safety, cycle maintenance, driver eye screening, motorcycle safety and general road safety.

The police will be on hand to talk to learners about the perils of drink-driving and will be testing staff and students on their reactions under the influence of 'drunk goggles'.

Trading standards will be advising young people on buying second hand cars while the Driving Standards Agency will offer advice on learning to drive.

Students will have the chance to enter a £1,000 competition to make a road safety film at the event, which takes place on November 24.

Enrichment officerNathalie Liva said: "I cycle to work every day and know too well how dangerous the roads around the college can be. It's also a great opportunity for our international students to get one to one advice on how to cope with traffic. being on the 'other side than what they are used to.'"
