Bristol street to get clean-up
A week of action is taking place in Stapleton Road to clean up and discourage anti-social behaviour.
Teams from Bristol City Council's Clean and Green department have been removing graffiti, fly-posters and litter from the area.
Police are carrying out extra patrols and Avon Fire and Rescue officers are visiting Stapleton Road to provide fire prevention and safety advice to local people and home fire safety checks.
Earlier in the week operations were carried out along the street by officers from Bristol's robbery team and district focus team.
Sixteen people were stopped and searched and two were cautioned for having cannabis.
Two others were wanted for previous offences and one man was arrested in connection with a street robbery in Montpelier.
Another person was also arrested for causing grievous bodily harm after an incident in Stapleton Road.
Bristol City Council has installed extra CCTV cameras along Stapleton Road as part of the drive to deter criminals and stamp out anti-social behaviour.
Councillor Gary Hopkins, cabinet member for the environment and community safety, said "Bristol City Council, the police and other Safer Bristol Partnership members have been listening to and working with local residents and traders to improve the safety and the quality of the environment in the Stapleton Road area.
"Local people have said they think that things are improving although they still have some concerns. Bristol City Council is fully behind these days of action which have been co-ordinated by the Safer Bristol Partnership to signal to local people how much their safety and environment matter to us.
Neighbourhood Inspector Graham Fox said: "Police and Safer Bristol Partnership members are committed to working together to tackle anti-social and criminal behaviour on Stapleton Road."
