The Bristol soldier son of Britain's biggest lottery winner said he was "yet to decide" about joining his royal Marine comrades in Afghanistan.

Corporal Dan Scadding's life changed for good when his father Les won a £45 million EuroMillion jackpot while he was preparing for a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Following news of the Euromillions windfall last week, Cpl Scadding was granted "exceptional leave" but returned to duty on Monday to take part in a live-firing exercise with his unit.

The 28-year-old, who earns £25,000 a year with the green berets, said he was unsure whether he would join the unit in Afghanistan or give it up for good.

The father of one, who lives in Shirehampton with his wife Rhianna, 26, and two-year-old son Mackenzie, said he was "not happy" that his personal life had come out.

"I feel like I have been stabbed in the back. Obviously someone wanted two minutes of fame and they are welcome to it but I am not saying anything else.

"I'm not sure where my future lies but I know it is no one's business but mine."

A source in Cpl Scadding's unit said: "It's the talk of the regiment. He is a committed Marine and someone others look up to.

"He is part of a unit which is almost certainly going to be deployed back in Afghanistan early next year.

"As a multi-millionaire, his father can easily buy him out of the military - what father wouldn't want to keep their son away from danger.

"But being a Marine is about being one of the best and that means being part of an elite team.

"A luxury life in civvy street is tempting for anyone. But for a Marine it is unthinkable to leave your comrades to fight without you. It's more than a job, it's a life."

When news of his father's win was announced, Cpl Scadding, from Avonmouth, said he was a "personal trainer" who was formerly in the Armed Forces, in order to keep his real job a secret.

He saw his father, celebrate his winnings on television.

Unemployed mechanic Les, 59, is from Shirehampton but moved to Caerleon, near Newport, South Wales, eight years ago.

He scooped £45,570,835.50 in the November 6 draw, making him the UK's biggest ever lottery winner.

The £91 million jackpot was split with a syndicate of seven office workers based in Merseyside.

The lucky ticket was bought on the same day the grandfather-of-six discovered he was £68 in the red at the bank.

He is divorced from Cpl Scadding's mother and has two other grown-up children from his first marriage.

In an interview shortly after the win he said he and his second wife Samantha Peachey-Scadding would be taking care of their family with their new-found wealth but would take their time to find out how best to do it.

“Mr Scadding said he was "not happy" that his personal life had come out. Maybe he should have thought about that before blabbing to the paper in the article that was front page on 11th November.

    Money doesn't buy you everything.”

“I have to confess that if I was given the chance to either getting shot in some Godforsaken far off land,or living aneasy life anywhere in the World,I`m afraid Afghanistan would come a very poor second !”

“I must of misread this story yesterday, I thought he was going back anyway and had already joined his unit? If he does get money from his father and decides to leave thats no ones business but his own. It's a tough deciosn for him and his family.”
