More snow is expected to fall across Bristol tonight after the city experienced its biggest snowfall in 18 years.

But the city will get a respite on Friday afternoon when the snow stops and starts to melt away over the weekend.

Dave Britton, a weather forecaster for the Met Office, said Bristol could expect another two centimetres (one inch) of snow overnight, but that would disappear towards Friday afternoon.

He said: “Tonight will be largely dry, with a widespread frost and temperatures down to about zero in the city.

“Overnight rain will come from the south, creating a mix of rain, sleet and snow by rush hour tomorrow morning.

“We could get another two centimetres of snow, but by lunchtime and early afternoon the weather will brighten up.

“It will be very cold, with temperatures down to -1C or -2C into Saturday, with another widespread frost.

“Saturday will be dry, with the occasional rain shower. Temperatures will reach 4C, and it will be bright and sunny, although it will feel cold.

“Sunday will be cloudy in the morning, with a band of rain pushing across the city into the afternoon and evening.

“The outlook for next week is cold and unsettled, with outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow on Monday.”

Bristol has seen 20cm, about eight inches, of snow fall across the city over the last week.

The last time we saw snow as good - or as bad - as this was in 1991.

“I have never ever known anything like this, God help us should we ever really had to face any real devastation! We have a little snow and the whole country comes to a standstill????? First bus decided not to run buses, my sons school is not open....so my question is, who is going to pay my bills at the end of the month because First Bus wouldn¿t let me get to work & the school decided I had to stay home for my son! But it is for our own safety! The roads are clear why cant things run on a wet road????? What about countries such as Russia, Austria, Norway, Sweden, Romania, and Canada....need I go on? How much snow do they get and you don¿t see them acting like the English do! And now there are even comments about political correctness & white snowmen! Give me a break, I have seen it all now, at times I am ashamed to admit I am English! We are a joke! People were made of stronger stuff years ago; they lived through wars, floods and believe it or not ...yes snow too! What is it with this generation?
I don¿t care if people don¿t like what I have to say, if I want to moan I will moan, all I can say is I am not a civil servant, a teacher or other such industries where people are paid to stay at home, if I don¿t work, I don¿t get paid. Is it any wonder this country is facing such a depression compared to the rest of the world¿¿maybe this is why so many foreigners are employed coz they get the job done, but the British can¿t seem to do that! Yes, I am considering emigrating from the country my grandfather fought for, but we should be proud to be English???? Yes, of our Scottish prime minister & Royal Family with German heritage????
But i will pay for the people on the dole to stay at home with my taxes, il pay for their kids to have a hot meal at school (when it is open that is ) i work for my money but my son has to eat sandwiches!
This might have all started just about the snow, but that is just one small example of what a mess this country really is.”

“Love the BEP headlines used in connection with the weather. On the site today are the following used in the various banner headlines "Nightmare, Standstill, Blizzard, Havoc, Anger, Chaos"

Looking forward to new descriptions tomorrow....help them out, it must be scary and get the populace worked up...Any suggestions?”

“Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”

“John you're such an idiot, stop being so ignorant. First stated at 7am that no buses were currently running and that they would review the situation shortly. Why don't you learn to drive?”
