Bristol shoplifter jailed after cheese theft
A serial Bristol shoplifter has been sent to prison after stealing cheese from Aldi.
Alan King, 30, of Pen Park Road, Southmead, has racked up 130 offences, 57 of which have been theft related.
Prosecuting at Bristol Magistrates' Court, Kirsty Allman said that on June 28 King stole six jars of coffee, chocolate bars and chocolate milkshake from McColl's in Filton Avenue.
While on bail for that offence he tried – and failed – to smuggle six blocks of cheese from Aldi in Greystoke Avenue, Southmead.
King admitted the offences, as well as failing to appear at court on September 10 and breaching a previous community order by not turning up to appointments, and he asked for a theft from Somerfield on August 4 to be considered.
In mitigation, the court heard King had battled with drug addiction for a number of years and was under pressure to pay an old debt when he committed the crimes. He has been jailed for a total of 10 weeks.
