Youngsters from 36 primary schools across Bristol are taking part in a three-day festival of sport.

More than 700 pupils have been given the chance to try 22 sports, from football and cricket to tag rugby and golf.

Some less mainstream sports are also available for the children to try, including ultimate Frisbee, street dance, bouldering, cheerleading and non-contact boxing.

On Tuesday pupils braved the rain to enjoy activities at Clifton College Sports Ground, in Abbots Leigh.

Today they will be at Action Indoor Sport, in Whitchurch, and tomorrow they will take part in activities at City Academy, in Lawrence Hill.

The activities are part of the inaugural Bristol Primary Festival of Sport, which is aimed at youngsters who don't usually have the chance to represent their school.

It is being led by coaches and officials from national governing bodies, while members of local sports clubs and student volunteers are also on hand to help out.

The festival has been funded by West of England Sport Trust (Wesport), the University of Bristol, the John Rutley Sport Fund, Bristol City Council and School Sport Partnerships.

Lee Ward, competition manager at Wesport, said: "It is hoped this experience will result in more children taking part in sport outside of school."
