A north Bristol primary school is appealing for sponsorship so that its rugby team can play at Twickenham in front of 80,000 fans.

The team, from Lockleaze Primary School, has been invited to take part in a tag rugby match at the home of English rugby as a warm-up to the Guinness Premiership Final on Saturday, May 16.

They were invited to represent Bristol after their win in the Bristol Rugby Wooden Spoon tag rugby 'Champion of Champions' play-off at the Bristol Memorial Stadium.

Lockleaze beat The Park Primary School by eight tries to seven after extra time, the winning try scored by Shamus Mcnama.

Head coach Antony Jelf said: "We are all really proud of our boys and girls for getting this far."

The team has been subsidised £250 for travel costs to Twickenham by Premier Rugby but it will cost the school more than £500. Businesses interested in sponsoring the team for their trip should contact Richard Reddrop on 0117 377 2840.
