Bristol school children inspired to be healthy
Polar adventurer Jon Bradshaw and rugby international Dave Hilton helped show pupils at Clifton College Preparatory school in Bristol the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Four hundred children took part in the school's healthy week, which included devising nutritious recipes.
Mr Bradshaw inspired the youngsters with his tale of how he gave up his job and walked 1,150km in 58 days to get to the South Pole.
He said: "I was the classic overweight schoolboy, always the last to be picked for the rugby or football team. I turned my life around through taking exercise and I want to get the message across to children that they too can achieve their dreams through staying healthy."
Mr Bradshaw, 38, is now planning his next trip – a 3,400-mile swim across the Atlantic from the United States to Ireland.
Dave Hilton, ex-Bristol and Scotland rugby union international, also spoke to pupils about the importance of eating a healthy diet, and told them how a change of lifestyle could assist overall performance in sport.
