A Bristol scaffolder has admitted attempting to break into two parked cars and forcing his way into another on a alcohol-fuelled rampage through St Paul's.

Darren Morgan, 30, of Plimsoll House, Redcliffe, admitted interfering with three parked cars on October 18 when he appeared before Bristol Magistrates' Court.

He pleaded guilty to interfering with a Vauxhall Corsa in Corey Close, a Vauxhall Astra in Grosvenor Road and a Nissan Micra in Ludlow Close.

Crown Prosecutor Andrea Edwards said Morgan was spotted on CCTV cameras walking around with a can of lager in his hand, accompanied by a woman.

She said he was seen to place his can on the roof of an Astra before trying to open the vehicle. She said he then attempted to prize open the Micra with his keys and also kicked the car.

Ms Edwards said Morgan then managed to get into a Corsa before spending five minutes inside then leaving with the woman.

She said he was later arrested in Stokes Croft and told police he couldn't remember what had happened.

When he was shown the CCTV footage he said he must have been trying to get into the vehicles because he was cold and needed to warm up.

Graham Arnall, defending, said: "He had drunk too much and with the anti-depressants he was taking it might have caused him to lose his self control." Mr Arnall said Morgan, who is a father, worked as a scaffolder on Weston-super-Mare's Grand Pier and that the offences had taken place after he had finished work. He said his client's last offence was for drink driving in 2006.

Magistrates adjourned the case for a probation report ahead of sentencing.
