Bristol's elderly knit their way into the record books
We're big on tea in Bristol and two care homes in the city have proved it – by helping to set a Guinness World Record for knitting the world's biggest tea cosy.
The record was attempted to raise awareness of Bupa's Communi-tea Week, a giant tea party which helps tackle the issue of loneliness of older people.
Residents in more than 300 Bupa care homes across the UK, Spain and New Zealand took part in the record bid by gathering knitted squares. Care homes in Bristol are now hosting afternoon tea parties to celebrate and are inviting older people in their communities to join them.
Druid Stoke Nursing Home in Stoke Bishop is hosting an afternoon tea party, with musical entertainment, on April 21 from 2-4.30pm
Karen Hunt, home manager, said: "Now we can raise our mugs in celebration of a great cause and a world record. Communi-tea Week offers the perfect chance to help someone who may be struggling on their own, so there'll be plenty of tea and entertainment to welcome any new friends and faces."
Amerind Grove Nursing Home in Ashton is also hosting afternoon tea with musical entertainment throughout the week from 2.30-4.00pm.
This is the third year that Bupa has organised Communi-tea Week.
Anyone wishing to attend any of the events can call the homes or the Communi-tea Week hotline on 0113 381 6306.
