Millions of viewers watched X Factor group Girlband scream with joy as they were told they had made it through to the next stage of the TV talent contest.

The Bristol band successfully passed the bootcamp stage at the weekend and are now one of the final 24 acts to go to the judges' houses on Saturday, as they attempt to make the final 12.

Girlband joined 150 acts at London's Indigo at O2, all eager to impress and hoping their dream would continue.

Made up of the Western Daily Press' very own Marissa Billitteri, 20, sisters Tita and Phoebe Lau, aged 20 and 18, and Layla Manoochehri, 22, the group say they mean business and are determined to reach the live shows.

Girlband will travel with judge Louis Walsh to a castle in Ireland, and be joined by Westlife's Shane Filan for Saturday's show.

The girls are chuffed to have Walsh as a mentor, even though he gave them a 'No' vote in the first audition stage of the competition in Birmingham.

They sang Stop! by Sam Brown and were seen on ITV in the Saturday night show, getting two 'Yes' votes from music mogul Simon Cowell and popstar Cheryl Cole but a 'No' from Walsh. Dannii Minogue did not attend the Birmingham auditions.

Tele-sales canvasser Ms Billitteri said last weekend's show was the first time their family and friends had watched them sing together.

She said: "It has been brilliant. Now it's the time when all the hard work starts."

Ms Billitteri could not reveal the outcome of Saturday's show, but said her family and friends are holding a big party at her Kingswood home, no matter what.

She said: "The castle in Dublin was amazing. We all feel really confident that we've got Louis as a mentor. He's been so successful with other bands that he can bring out the best in us. I think he's the best judge we could have."

The X Factor, which is in its fifth series, has produced stars such as Leona Lewis and Shayne Ward.

Tune into ITV1 to see The X Factor on Saturday from 7.45pm and on Sunday from 6.10pm for the results.

“I was Marissa's music teacher at Speedwell School and would like to congratulate her and wish her well. Please can you put us in touch. I teach at St.Bede's Catholic College and will be encouraging all my students to support Girlband. I have some great photos and video of her school performances. In 2000, aged 11 , she performed the solo 'Thankyou for the music' in the Colston Hall in a concert to celebrate the lives of two recently deceased teachers. She has always possessed an amazing talent.”
